Not to be Forgotten

Something I wrote years ago.

“Only one life, ‘twill soon be past, only what’s done for Christ will last.”

Thank you, Josh, for the life you lived and the impact and legacy that you leave behind. I, though I never had the privilege of meeting you, have been greatly impacted by your testimony and the testimonies shared by many who loved you…

I want to be like Josh. I want to live a life like Josh did, for Christ. He did everything for Christ, lived every day for Christ, and loved everyone he came into contact with, like Christ.

May I too live each day for Him, not taking advantage of a single day or moment I have on this earth. Not taking advantage of a single relationship that God has given to me. I want to have a great impact for Christ on this earth. I want to be Christ to everyone I know & meet. Please God, don’t let me forget, “Only one life, ‘twill soon be past, ONLY what’s done for CHRIST will last.” May that be my prayer and motivation for my every day.

Lord, reveal to me what in my life needs to change. Open my eyes to the sin in my life. I want to wake up each day with a desire to pursue You and Your will for my life. I want to live each day as if it is my last, taking EVERY opportunity to serve others, share my faith, and be Christ to someone else.

May I love my family and friends the way that Christ loves me. Not looking at them as an annoyance or a burden, but rather an opportunity to serve you and bring glory to Your name. I want to be a daughter, sister, and friend that they can look up to and be proud of. Lord, help me deny myself daily, take up my cross, and follow You. Help me serve others like you would, loving everyone with an unconditional love, seeing them as you do.

Give me wisdom and a greater knowledge of You. Help my confidence be in You and You alone. Take away my fear, Lord. Help me to remember that NOTHING on this earth matters, except You. Only what is done for Christ will last.

Thank you, Josh. And thank you, Lord, for how you shined so brightly through Josh’s life. Thank you for the impact he has had in so many people’s lives because of the grace that you had in his. May we not forget that You are the one that made Josh the man that he was. You are what we admire so greatly in Josh’s life and strive to be in each of ours. Please, Lord. Help me be the kind of friend that Josh was, not worried about what he got in return, and not worried about what other people thought of him and his love for You.

Only one life, ‘twill soon be past, ONLY what’s done for CHRIST will last.”

James 4:1-10

"What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don't they come from your desires that battle within you? You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures." (4:1-4)

"Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up." (4:7-10)

Humility then, is the answer.

"Once we are convinced again that we have everything we need in Christ and that his saving work is finished, our faith is stoked once more, and love - concern for others that overshadows a concern for ourselves - blossoms.

The Gospel stokes faith, faith produces humility, and humility restores relationships."

therefore, friends, let's not give the devil room to get in between our relationships with one another. the silly arguments, petty fights & disagreements, jealousy, covetousness, etc.. they're all works of the devil to turn us against one another, that we might be less effective for the gospel of Christ.

rather, let us humbly stand firm together, in Christ, on mission to share the love of Jesus.
